Bri Thoma

trying to make the real world live up to my imagination

Hi there. My name is Brianne Thoma, I'm originally from the southwest suburbs of Chicago, but have been living in some of the north side neighborhoods of Chicago since 2016. In December of 2013 I graduated with an Associate of Arts from Moraine Valley Community College where I majored in Vocal Performance before switching my focus to Film.  I started studying film at Tribeca Flashpoint College in Chicago in 2014 and graduated April of 2016 with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Film and Broadcast. My time at Tribeca taught me that I am a level headed leader, that I have an eye and skill for editing, and while I work well independently I thrive on collaboration with like minded creatives such as myself. As my time at TFC wrapped up I discovered my passion for production design. My favorite part of the film making process is getting to create the world of the script and truly bring it to life. I'm also a self taught makeup artist specializing in special effects makeup. I have an unending need to learn as much as possible about SFX makeup and prop making. Every day is different as a production designer. My imagination never stops, using my creativity in filmmaking is the only time reality comes close to living up to my expectations.

As an artist I am most inspired by music, life and other’s stories. Songs are stories to me, sometimes a small part of a bigger whole or a full story in 4 short minutes. I enjoy imagining the world of the stories I read or the ones being told to me, down to the smallest of details. I’m an extremely visual person. I live my life through my imagination, but still my stories are all rooted in reality and the normal day to day struggles. My stories are those scenarios you work out in your head when it's too late, the things you wish you had said or the way you wish things went. I naturally have pretty dumb bad luck, so I live my days inspired by the ridiculous mishaps that I’m always looking for the bright side of. I too often am able to explain my days of Murphy’s Law as “It was like something out of a movie.” The next natural step is to do just that with such stories.
